It happened to me. I had heard that it could but I thought I had raised my children better than that. What am I talking about?
My six-year old daughter would NOT eat the ham/bean soup I made for dinner. Can you believe that? It was so good. After a long time and much cajoling, she ate three bites and then outright rejected them. That’s the Reader’s Digest version. 😕🤕
Why do I tell you this story? Because, you need to know that children will NOT eat anything if they’re hungry enough. It won’t work. You need to plan on other options for them. Or get them used to the “beans” now before you really have to use them for survival.
Whether it’s beans, broccoli, chocolate (what?!) or anything else, figure out what it is your child(ren) won’t eat…NOW. Are there other ways to introduce the food?
For instance, one of the ways my daughter eats beans unknowingly is that I blend my canned beans ( in a blender or nutribullet) and put them in spaghetti sauce and soups/stews. I grind up my dry beans in a grain grinder or even a small coffee grinder that is specifically used for grinding spices or grains. I don’t change the recipe at all, I add the “bean flour” to the regular flour to make breads, cookies, brownies and so on.
This sweet child of mine may never like the taste of beans. That’s the beauty of creating your own. If you’re gluten-intolerant or lean more towards a vegetarian lifestyle, or your kid doesn’t like beans…. you can customize your home storage to fit your needs.
